In January 2017 Connie Yates and Chris Gard set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds for their son’s treatment in the US. The fundraising page raised an incredible £1.3 million in just two months, but sadly Charlie lost his battle with mitochondrial disease before he was able to receive the treatment.
In June 2018 Connie and Chris launched the Charlie Gard Foundation with the funds previously raised for Charlie’s treatment. So to each and every individual who supported Charlie’s original cause, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Without your generosity the foundation would never have been created, so your good will has now enabled us to provide support, services, and equipment to families suffering from a mitochondrial diagnosis, and has also helped us to fund vital research into treatments for mitochondrial diseases.
During the original campaign we were unable to collect Gift Aid, but we have now been given the opportunity to collect Gift Aid on our GoFundMe donations so that the charity can benefit from further funds.
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK scheme that enables registered charities to reclaim tax on a donation made by a UK taxpayer, effectively increasing the amount of the donation.
How can you help?
If you originally donated to Charlie’s cause in 2017, and would be happy for us to collect up to 25% in funds – at no extra cost to you – to make your funds go further, then you can fill out our Gift Aid form here.
If you’d like to know more about the form, why you need to fill it out and where your money will be going, please see our Gift Aid video below.
Your extra contribution could potentially help us to raise over £300,000 and allow us continue to carry out our vital work as a charity, and for that we are incredibly grateful.
If you have any questions about the Gift Aid, or would like to know more about how you can help, please do email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be happy to help.
